Well, I waited for Groundhog Day so it could tell us what we already know –6 more weeks of winter. So we have more time to reinvent ourselves, try new styles and make improvements before the big spring reveal. Every thing comes to life again in the spring.
This is a good time to try something new. There are metallic and off the beaten path hair colors. There are so many fun products on the market with promises of making us beautiful. Shampoos that add a dash of temporary color, like pink. As the millennials say, “Rosé all day”. New mascaras that will turn your lashes super sexy; Maybelline and Boot’s have new ones to try. They touch on the glamour of yesterday and bring it to the 2000’s.
This is also the time to take stock of your wardrobe. These winter months are often an in between time for fashion in the stores. Lots of clearance sales with bargains; but how many sweaters can you have? I use this as a time to get rid of pieces that are old, worn and past due with an eye to replace/refresh. Look at the trends that are upcoming for spring. What excites you? What will work for your body? Pick one or two pieces to incorporate into your spring collection to freshen your look.
Spring fashion and renewing your look is about doing it for you. Opening a new chapter in your year and life. It is what you want. The media has brought to our attention, or perhaps made it worse, that our harshest criticism comes from other women, our peers. Fat shaming when she’s a size 10–give me a break! It’s about dressing for yourself and feeling good about yourself. We need to build each other up; not bring each other down.
Fat shaming and a hurtful environment in general should be a thing of the past. It gives me joy to see others succeed and do well. It speaks volumes of all of us if we recognize and support others. Maybe it’s about cheering for the underdog or just passing along the good juju. As we look forward to spring it is about renewing in whatever way that makes sense to you. Prepping ourselves inward and outward puts our best self forward.
